JÄLKIÄ - TRACES
Images of beauty, stories of violence

Jälkiä - Traces is a combination of photography, media art and installation.  Its main idea is to use art to handle the theme of domestic violence and its consequences.

The exhibition has three levels. The outerl level - sort of an orbit - are the pictures of and by Mylène Meursault. In the middle of the exhibition there's a black cube (2,8 m x 2,8 m x 2,8 m) which features big portraits of Mylène Meursault from the front, from the sides and from the back.

Inside the cube there are a few selected objects on display. There's also a half an house video interview of Mylène Meursault, which is played non-stop. In the video Mylène tells about the experiences she had in her childhood and youth. Her parents were violent and she had to face both physical and mental violence on a daily basis until she ran away from home in the age of 17. Also the objects are explained on the video.

The original idea of Traces was invented by Mylène Meursault and final concept is a result of cooperation between Mylène Meursault, Meeri Koutaniemi and Mikko Keinonen.

Jälkiä - Traces was published in June 2015 in Heinävesi. Since then it's been on display in seven galleries in Finland.

All material of the exhibition is both in English and Finnish. The video interview was made in English with Finnish subtitles.
